Though the curved stone ceilings don't make for an ideal acoustic for the classical guitar, the HQ and bottling cellars in Epernay of the famous Moet & Chandon Champagne make for an interesting venue with a 'bubbly' audience... Being so far underground also offered a welcome break from the July heat wave Europe is currently suffering from!
![]() In May I travelled down to the Alps to play at one of the most spectacular spots I've had the pleasure to perform in. With a view of snow capped mountains and green valleys for miles into the distance, I performed French repertoire for drivers of super cars on their way through France to Monaco as part of a special event called The Run To Monaco. I even got to stay in the adjacent chateau, in a room complete with an original medieval turret! Over the following months I shall be putting up on this site arrangements that I have used in concerts and events over the years that I'd like to share with other guitarists.
Initially I will be posting some arrangements for voice and guitar arranged from the piano scores and tweeked over numerous performances: * 'O del mio dolce adour' (O of my gentle love), a beautiful minor key aria from the opera 'Paris and Helen' by Christoph Willibald Gluck premiered in 1770.. * Two Spanish songs: 'La Petenera', a passionate song for Soprano with a gorgeous lyrical middle section by Federico Moreno Torroba from his Zarzuela, 'La Marchenera' (1928). Also, 'Cantares', an exhilarating Flamenco-esque song by Joaquin Turina. Also, from the pop canon, I will be posting * 'Moondance' by Van Morrison arranged for solo guitar, which I have performed for a first dance at a wedding * 'My Girl' the 1964 Motown hit by The Temptations. And more.... |
